European Space Agency astronaut Christer Fuglesang , 49, will join be on two of the Discovery mission's three spacewalks. He is Sweden's first astronaut.
"I hope this will increase interest in space for Sweden, and actually for science and technology in general," said Fuglesang, a physicist. "This flight is a small step in the assembly of the space station. The station is a small step toward the moon and Mars."
He joined the European Space Agency's astronaut corps in 1992. He trained in Russia as a cosmonaut, learning the duties of a space station flight engineer as well as a Soyuz commander. He was assigned to NASA in 1996 for astronaut training.
Maybe Lucas will be the first Man on Mars, representing Spain and Denmark and Italy and France and Europe and the World. :D
